Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti celebrations across the classes

“Dwell in peace in the home of your own being, and the Messenger of Death will not be able to touch you.”
Guru Nanak

Guru Nanak Dev was the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus.

Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated to mark the birth of Guru Nanak and is celebrated with great zeal.
Our little students celebrated the 553rd birthday of Sikh Guru Nanak Dev also known as ‘Gurpurab’ on 5th November 2022 in great excitement and enthusiasm.

Students of Pre School and Pre Primary were told about the importance of Guru Nanak's teachings through a story, which emphasised the importance of sharing and equality of all human beings. The students recite the Mool Mantra ‘Ek Onkar’, resonating the universe. Later the Pre primary students crafted the Nishan Sahib ( Sikh triangular flag) in a craft activity. The Pre schoolers also did mosaic art and decorated an image of the Sikh turban on a worksheet.

The students of class 1 were told about the life and teachings of the first Sikh Guru- to live honestly, treat everyone equally regardless of gender, religion, etc., respect the environment, and give back to the community through service. The children drew portraits conveying the message of inherent morality, hard work and truthfulness.

Class 2 students participated in Guru Nanak Dev's birth celebration  making flashcards on the teachings of Guru Nanak.

The teachers highlighted the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev which point to an honest and simple life filled with universal brotherhood. Videos on his life and spiritual journey were played for the students which reiterated the message ‘One God’ and the ‘Eternal Truth’.

Teachers encouraged the students to follow the principles of the holy Guru and cultivate the values of humanity.
