Folk festival
The Indian School-Second Shift participated in Saanjhi, an annual folk festival organised by Sardar Patel Vidyalaya on 8 December, 2017. The chief guest was Mr. Subrat Sinha, renowned script writer, lyricist and director of tv shows. The event was organised in 3 categories storytelling, folk art and a folk music exposition.
8 students participated in the storytelling session, 4 each from classes 4 and 5. They were accompanied by Ms. Neeti Gupta. The group narrated and enacted a Gujarati folktale named Ballubhai Shahi kanjoos. The children wore traditional Gujarati attire and interspersed their dialogues liberally with Gujarati words to add authenticity to the play.

The storytelling was held under the schools landmark Banyan tree. The theme was folk stories and 13 schools participated in the event. The stories were entertaining and the costumes from the different states added colour and drama. The diverse dialects and intonations gave a flavour of the rich and varied cultural splendour of India.
Participants of different schools mingled with the students of the host school, lending an air of festivity and excitment to the surroundings. The hospitality of the host school was also heartwarming. Senior students from the host school acted as escorts for the visiting participants and teachers.
As we understood, the festival celebrates the true spirit of Indian culture and its diverse nuances and this is imperative for the young generation to also taste it. Participation in such events helps students understand the complex and the distinctive flavour of our cultural heritage and enables them to develop a sense of pride and belonging in the same.
It was a brilliant, informative and entertaining day for our students.
Ms. Neeti Gupta.
