Experiential learning in Pre School
All the sections of Pre School recently conducted a sock-matching (winter) activity in class, where each child was asked to bring in a pair of colourful socks. The socks were then, all placed in a heap for the little ones to sort. Next, the teacher lined up one of each pair of socks, and put the rest in the pile. Students then picked out the matching socks and laid them out in pairs.

The task of matching induces concentration and works on visual memory and categorisation. It provides the child an opportunity to think and reason, and helps him find order in the world around him.
The sock-matching activity encouraged the children to use mathematical vocabulary: number names, sort, order, pattern, colour, shape, large, long, short, small, etc. It also helped in their understanding of the concept of pair.
