Excursion to Qutub Minar

The Indian School-Second Shift organised an excursion to the Qutub Minar for class II on 28th Dec 2016

Three teachers accompanied the children on the excursion.

The students were overwhelmed to see such a towering monument and asked innumerable questions about it. Qutub Minar, the highest stone tower in India, stands at a height of 72.5 metres and was envisioned by Qutub-ud-Din Aibak as his tower of victory. Qutub-ud-Din completed the first storey while the rest were completed by his successor, Iltutmish.

Besides the minar, a mosque, the tomb of Iltutmish and the Iron Pillar, were the other fascinating attractions in the Qutub Complex. The Iron Pillar is a 7 meter column which stands in the courtyard of the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. It is known for the rust-resistant composition used in its construction. The mosque was built by Qutub-ud-Din Aibak in 1192.

The students were captivated by the magnificence of the monuments they saw. They thoroughly enjoyed walking through the complex and were exposed to yet another era of heritage through the excursion. The group returned to School by 4:40 pm.
