Environment Week talk on Sustainability for classes 6-9

On 2nd July 2024, our School had the pleasure of hosting two experts, Ms Poonam Gupta and Mr Sudheer Khurana, for an Environment Week workshop, who brought their extensive expertise and passion for sustainability to our special week.

The students of classes 6-9 had the opportunity to ask questions and share their bright ideas. The speakers responded to these inquiries in an engaging and informative manner, fostering a stimulating and enriching dialogue.

The importance of Environment Day lies in its ability to raise global awareness and encourage action towards protecting our planet. It serves as a platform for educating people about pressing environmental issues, such as climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. By celebrating Environment Day, communities around the world come together to promote sustainable practices, advocate for policy changes, and inspire individual actions that contribute to a healthier, more sustainable planet. This day reinforces the idea that everyone has a role to play in ensuring the well being of our environment for current and future generations.

Mr Khurana highlighted the following points about the uses and importance of plastics, as well as the correct recycling methods for them.

1. Versatility and Utility: Plastics are incredibly versatile and used in various essential applications, from medical devices and food packaging to automotive parts and construction materials.

2. Sustainability in Plastics: When used responsibly, plastics can contribute to sustainability efforts, such as reducing food waste through effective packaging and lowering carbon footprints in transportation because of their lightweight nature.

3. Recycling Practices: Segregation at Source: It is crucial to segregate plastic waste from other types of waste at the source to ensure effective recycling.

**  Recycling Facilities: Use designated recycling bins and facilities to dispose of plastic waste properly.

** Educational Campaigns: Engage in and support educational campaigns that promote awareness about recycling practices and the environmental impact of plastics.

4. Innovative Recycling Technologies:

Ms Poonam Gupta emphasised the importance of advancing recycling technologies to enhance the efficiency of plastic waste management and reduce environmental impact.

It is essential for each one of us to take conscious steps towards a sustainable future. By understanding the importance of proper waste management, supporting recycling efforts, and advocating for innovative environmental practices, we can contribute to a healthier planet. Let's continue to be proactive in our daily lives and inspire others to do the same.

We look forward to continuing this journey towards a more sustainable future and hope to inspire everyone to take action in their daily lives to protect our environment.
