Environment Day activities

“Our planet’s alarm is going off, and it is time to wake up and take action!”
                            -Leonardo DiCaprio

The Indian School-Second Shift took immense pleasure in being a part of the global festival, World Environment Day on June 5, 2022. This day is specially observed keeping in mind the theme of the year ‘Only One Earth’, through several activities  by students at home during the summer vacation.

It is the United Nations’ flagship day for promoting worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Based on this year's theme- 'Only One Earth', this day was observed with activities organised in classes 1 and 2.

Class 1 observed this occasion with enthusiasm. Students learnt the importance of waste segregation at home through the ‘coloured bins’ activity. Segregating dry and wet waste is essential for recycling and it ensures that less waste goes to landfills. They painted one bin green and the other blue. Students did their bit for the environment by sorting kitchen waste and dropping the dry and wet items in their respective bins.

Class 2 participated in Environment Day activities with leaf printing relating to the environment. Students emphasised their creative and kinesthetic skills to understand the fragility of our environment and the importance of its protection.

With this 'Only One Earth' campaign, the young minds learnt the importance of segregation of different types of waste and thereby the importance of protecting the environment. Both the activities contributed to their holistic development.
