Educational Excursion to Gandhi Smriti for classes 3 and 4
'Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment. Full effort is full victory.' - Mahatma Gandhi
On 8th August,2023, students of classes III and IV along with their teachers went on an excursion to Gandhi Smriti at Birla House on Tees January Marg. This is the place where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life. The purpose of the visit was to acquaint the students with the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi.
The students viewed the preserved room where Gandhiji resided and the spot on the grounds of the property where he was shot during his evening public walk for prayers. The students were moved when they saw the spot where Gandhiji was shot dead.
To know more about Gandhiji's life, the students were shown a short documentary consisting of original videos of important happenings like the Dandi March, Non Cooperation movement etc. They also visited the eternal Gandhi multimedia museum. They were guided by the instructor about the significance of the various exhibits, such as sculptures, inscriptions on rocks, and relics pertaining to the years that Mahatma Gandhi spent on the premise. The ‘Pillar of Castelessness’, a symbol of unity, caught the fancy of students, which illuminated upon touch, as they stood together holding hands.
An interface with the Mahatma’s life was indeed a great learning experience for the students as well as the teachers.
