'Eat Healthy, Stay Healthy'-Pre primary.
It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver Mahatma Gandhi
Childhood is the best time to learn healthy eating habits to last a lifetime. To develop healthy eating habits in children, the students of Pre-Primary were introduced to the importance of fruits and vegetables.
The students were shown pictures of various fruit and vegetables and explained their varying characteristics like taste, colour, shape texture etc. The significance of the inclusion of fruit and vegetables in the everyday diet to help one grow, to protect us against diseases and to stay healthy was conveyed to the students.
For the Show and Tell on 12th September, 2016, the students brought a favourite fruit from home and shared its qualities with the class. All the children exhibited confidence and enthusiasm as they presented their thoughts with clarity. The Show and Tell was followed by a fun Fruit Chaat session where the Pre-Primary teachers demonstrated how a tongue-tingling fruit chaat is assembled and how fruit can be a scrumptious and quick alternative to junk food. The students watched in learnt and enjoyed watching the process of preparing a fruit chaat and enjoyed eating it too.
On 15th September, 2016, the Pre-Primary students dressed with accoutrements to represent the distinctive qualities of different fruit like the apple, the mango, bananas and oranges. ' Each fruit' then introduced itself and its special qualities at a special assembly, much to the amusement of the others!
On 16th September, 2016, the teachers and students of Pre-Primary visited the next door Mother Dairy outlet. Here the children were delighted to view an array of fresh fruit and vegetables like the beetroot, green apples, carrots, tomatoes, radish and easily identified them.
Thus the students were exposed to an exercise of identifying the elements of healthy eating in a fun way. Indeed a fruitful experience!
