Earth Day
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
-Albert Einstein
Once again this year, 22nd April, 2015 brought in an enthusiastic gust of colour, dynamism and budding appreciation for Mother Earth among The Indian School-Second Shift children. We zealously dived into the day with each class conducting varied activities to help the children know and empathise with our planet better. Some creative craft and colouring exercises apart, the children were shown an audio-visual about the importance of Earth Day, emphasising that some considerable sensitivity and effort must go into conserving it.
The Natures Walk into our herbal garden further added to each childs awareness of certain plants and herbs that he or she may often have heard of but not quite seen on the stem. The tulsi, parsley, lemongrass, dhaniya, etc., in bloom delighted the little onlookers!

A special group activity of painting on a life size paper scroll was taken up by each class, where the children and teachers created fantastic artworks incorporating handprints, thumbprints and other interesting techniques, drawing attention towards a necessary message about the growing need to love and preserve nature for a better world through them.
The climax of the day was an enjoyable and informative special assembly performed by some of the children highlighting the relationship we share with our earth, especially with all our foliage, from a childs standpoint. The motto that was asserted was LETS MAKE THE WORLD CLEANER AND GREENER.
In the end, the children were given a potted plant each as an ode to creating a unit of compassionate future citizens, and in the process, building a better, greener tomorrow. Truly, he who plants trees and cares for the planet loves others beside himself.
We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.
