Classes 6-9 visit the School eco park
“Learning should be a joy and full of excitement. It is life’s greatest adventure; it is an illustrated excursion into the minds of the noble and the learned.” ~ Taylor Caldwell
The Indian School-Second Shift organised an excursion for classes 6 to 9 to the School eco park to enjoy a day out in a farm setting. The students were divided into two groups for their excursions, on 5th and 12th December, 2022. The trip offered students a fun-filled way of exploring their natural habitat, in the warm sunlight and the fresh air on a brisk winter morning. They enjoyed adventure activities like crossing a bridge on foot, commando net climbing and crawling through a tunnel. These activities are designed to test physical stamina and help the child be one with his/her mind and body. They also help improve physical strength, mobility, concentration, response to stress and moods.
The students got to explore the science park on the farm, where they observed and engaged with life size models of the Pythagoras Theorem, double ended cones, parabolic dishes, third order lever, friction and speed and many more, which they had only studied in textbooks. The students had a fun science and math session and understood significant concepts and theories in edutainment, as it were. Post lunch, some students enjoyed a volleyball match, while the others enjoyed the swings.
The excursion also involved observing organic farming and rows of beds filled with fresh vegetables. They also played a game to identify the trees, plants and types of leaves in sight.
The excursion not only provided the students a break from classroom learning, but also brushed up on multiple intelligences like inter personal, intra personal, spatial, visual, kinesthetic and naturalistic skills. As a parting present, the students picked fresh spinach, coriander, fenugreek, mustard, raddish, cauliflower, turnip, bottle gourd and ripe brinjals with their own hands, which was a novel and exhilarating experience for them.
On both the days, all the students of classes 6 to 9 had a whale of a time and learnt many new things in a playway and interesting manner.
