Classes 6- 8 visit the International Museum Expo
Museums are not just visiting places for our young, they are a career opportunity. They can act as the medium of global cultural exchange. The International Museum Expo was organised as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate the 47th International Museum Day. The theme for this year is museum sustainability and well-being.
Select students of classes 8 to 10 of The Indian School-Second Shift visited the expo on 20th May 2023 at Pragati Maidan. They were accompanied by their science teacher, Ms Neha Yadav. They were shown around the various evidence and fact based exhibits. There was an informative exhibition of diverse collections of museums worldwide showcasing their heritage. The key elements of the expo included the exhibition of star objects, museum book covers, a techno mela, conservation lab, children's activities, museum on wheels and cultural programmes.
The students got an opportunity to develop their skills in a holistic way as they made wall paintings, wrote on postcards, pasted a stamp on each and finally put it into the postbox. They did an archaeological activity and familiarised themselves with the excavation process being by the Archaeological Survel of India (ASI). The ASI also presented participation certificates post the completion of the activity. They also did science and mathematics activities which included the use of the Pythagoras theorem, Kepler’s laws of motion, playing music with the help of a barcode reader machine, human anatomy and a live view of different minerals and ores of various metals.
It was a great opportunity for students to explore the world of various disciplines at this expo and to get themselves familiar with advanced technologies. They appreciated the concept of modern museums and how it offered so much learning with a hands' on experience.
