Classes 5-8 visit the National Philatelic Exhibition, AMRITPEX-23

That is what learning is. You suddenly understand something you’ve understood all your life, but in a new way.

-Dorris Lessing

Philately is the study of postage stamps and postal history. This five-day ‘Mahakumbh of Stamps’ was organised by the AMRITPEX 2023, an exhibition aimed to introduce a whole new generation to philately and its charm. Selected students of classes 5 to 8 of The Indian School- Second Shift participated in the exhibition on 14th February 2023 at Pragati Maidan, along with their teachers, Ms Anupriya and Ms Sandita.

With more than 1400 frames and digital exhibits on display, students viewed the joy of philatelic items. The exhibition highlighted India’s history, culture, art, and heritage across the decades through stamps and pictural collections. Also featuring a competitive section, students won goodies in various international philatelic sections  featuring a quiz and a stamp to commemorate the World Book Fair 2023.

The exhibition included digital exhibits and interactive activities for the young ones. The students thoroughly enjoyed their experience of the Wall of Philately, Mascot – Virtual Reality Rooms and the Digital Charkha. Digital Kiosks – digital postcard creation was the highlight of the event. Students took the opportunity of posting letters for the ‘Time Capsule’, to be opened in 2047.

In addition, many media platforms and  artists engaged with students as a part of the exhibition.

The objective to educate the public, children and youth in particular, about the culture, heritage, history and the heroes of India and to encourage philately as a hobby was successfully instilled among all.
