Classes 4 and 5 take an excursion to the School eco park
On 27 January 2025, the students of classes 4 and 5 of The Indian School-Second Shift visited the School eco park. A group of 81 students, accompanied by 4 teachers, left School at 8.15 am. The journey from the bustle of the city to the peaceful countryside was an eye-opening experience for our city-raised students! Upon arriving at the park, they were thrilled to witness a big cloud hanging low over a vast stretch of greenery. The sight of neatly arranged vegetable beds, laden with fresh, tender produce, was truly a treat for the eyes. Keen to explore, the students strolled around the park, learning about farming. Picking fresh vegetables by one's own hands was a thrilling experience, providing a hands'-on opportunity for experiential learning.
The group also explored a range of life-sized science models at the park. These included an optical illusion display that demonstrated the effects of light and perspective, as well as Newton’s Cradle, which showed how motion and energy work. They also observed concave, convex, and plane mirrors to gain a better understanding of light behaviour. The students were fascinated by the exhibits and enjoyed experimenting with the models, making science both fun and interactive.
The sports enthusiasts quickly got down to a game of volleyball and football, while the nature lovers walked around and observed the farm animals. Last but not the least, the children gathered near the vegetable beds to pick the produce. In squeals of delight, they spotted and collected fresh produce to carry home.
The trip was not only a refreshing break from their routine but also an important lesson in the value of farming and sustainability.
