Classes 3-6 observe National Pollution Control Day
Environmental pollution is an incurable disease. It can only be prevented. Barry Commoner
Every year, on December 2, we observe National Pollution Control Day to raise awareness of the risks brought on by contaminated water, land, and air. The occasion also offers remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Bhopal Gas disaster on December 2, 1984.
The occasion was observed at The Indian School – Second Shift with an aim to create awareness among the students to conserve and preserve their habitat from being destroyed at the hands of pollution.
The students of class 3 were shown a video on the various types of pollution and their harmful effects on the environment. Later, students shared ways of curbing pollution.
The students of class 4 were introduced to the topic through a class discussion involving the School motto, 1on generating clean energy.
National Pollution Control Day presented as an opportunity for them to come together and actively contribute to a healthier environment.
Students also learnt through their curriculum how individuals can play a vital role in raising awareness or initiate projects that promote clean energy within the community by installing solar panels and other energy-efficient initiatives.
Class 5 students wrote acrostic poems on pollution and recited the same in their classes. Their poems not only cited the causes for the different kinds of pollution but provided various methods of eliminating it. Students also spoke about the 3 R’s which play a pivotal role in upholding a sustainable environment.
While, the students of class 6 discussed the sources of pollution, its impact on flora and fauna and the importance of mitigating it. Further, the students wrote an essay on the Bhopal Gas tragedy and also shared their views on making our planet pollution free.
The activities conducted across the classes fostered in building understanding among the pupils to judiciously use resources and not to encroach upon the environment for selfish motives.
The students were also reminded about how our School is undertaking various citizenship initiatives to control pollution such as the no bursting crackers programme, ban on plastic bags etc.
