Be like a postage stamp, stick to one thing until you get there
- Josh Billings
On 13th February 2024, 48 students of class III of The Indian School-Second Shift, along with their teachers, visited the National Philatelic Museum.
The purpose of the excursion was to introduce the students to the world of philately and to enhance their knowledge about stamps, postal history and related artefacts. Upon entering the museum, the students were greeted by a fascinating world of stamps and the immense postal history of India. They were then guided by the museum curator, Mr Aayush, through the different sections of the museum showcasing the unique aspects of philately.
The students had the opportunity to see rare and valuable stamps from different eras and countries and thematic collections depicting various subjects such as wildlife, history and culture. Interactive sessions by Mr Suryaprakash, who deals with the online distribution of the stamps, were organised where the students learned about stamp production, the significance of the different markings on stamps and the evolution of postal services over time. Postcard writing was also conducted to actively engage the students.
This excursion proved to be an enriching and educational experience for the students. It not only offered them insights into the fascinating world of philately but also enhanced their appreciation for the role of stamps in documenting history and culture. The interactive sessions and hands-on activities further reinforced their learning and made the excursion enjoyable and informative.
