Class 2 Excursion to Sunder Nursery

Educational excursions not only enhance the knowledge of the students but also broaden their outlook of the real world. An excursion to Sunder Nursery was organised for the students of class II on 6 th February 2020 . Sunder Nursery, formerly called Azim Bagh or Bagh-e-Azeem, is a 16th-century heritage park complex adjacent to the Humayun's Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The exhilarated group of 62 children was accompanied by their teachers on this excursion by bus .The weather was ideal for a day outdoors. We entered the garden to sprawling greens , symmetrical walkways and an ancient Mughal monument right in the middle of our line of sight. On the other side of the monument , geometrical flower beds and marble fountains made for a majestic view. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture ( AKTC) gave this old Mughal garden a facelift and reopened it as a heritage park on 21 st February 2018. The objective was to preserve the rich heritage for the generations to come . Today Sunder Nursery contains 15 heritage monuments, of which 6 are UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)- protected Sundarwala Burj, Sundarwala Mahal and Lakkarwala Burj. It contains over 300 types of trees, making it Delhi's first arboretum. During British rule, the nursery was established to grow experimental plants, which gave it its current status as a nursery. The "Sunder" part of the name comes from the Sunder Burj tomb located on the same premise. Although the name Sunder Nursery has still held, the park has been quoted to be 'Delhi's Central Park' after renovation! Students visited the 6 vintage structures within the Sunder Nursery - Sunder Burj, Sundarwala Mahal, Lakkarwala Burj, Mirza Muazzafar Hussain's Tomb, Chotta Bateshewala and the Unknown Mughal's tomb. The rose garden hosts an assortment of roses such as the H.T.rose , the Iceberg , Oklahoma, Gold Media etc. There is a small forest with more than 50 species of birds and a Bonsai garden . The children tread through the slender path in the mini jungle amidst squeals of strutting peacocks and soaring eagles. It was indeed a memorable journey which the students of class II enjoyed. The smiles on their faces expressed a lot more than words can describe. The enthusiastic children returned to School and documented their visit in the form of posters and paragraph writing.
