Christmas craft at KNMA
“Children are not things to be molded, but are people to be unfolded.” Jess Lair
Art is an expression of a free mind. Keeping that in mind, students of The Indian School-Second Shift participated in a workshop in collaboration with Kiran Nadar Museum of Art
Craftopia: an artsy winter camp for children, presented a medley of hands-on, Christmas-inspired crafts. This engaged children in specially curated art activities designed for all. They rediscovered the charm of Christmas through a series of activities.
Students of classes 5 and 6 visited the museum on 16th December, 2023 along with their teachers Ms Anupriya and Ms Debaroti. At KNMA, an exemplary dynamic relationship between art and culture was showcased through its exhibitions, publications, and educational programs. The ever-growing collection of KNMA was largely focused on significant trajectories.
Students got the privilege to explore it all. Its core collection highlights a magnificent generation of 20th century Indian painters from the post-Independence decades and equally engages the different art practices of the younger contemporaries.
The children had an opportunity to experience the special installation for the month- ‘Winged Pilgrims: A Chronicle from Asia’. This is a multi-part installation that constructs parallels between the past and the present and evoked metaphors of shifts in social and cultural traditions as a result of globalisation.
Thereafter to set their most creative festive spirit free, students sat down to make a beautiful show-stopping festive wreath. Using the wrapped ribbon technique and assorted flowers, twigs, dry leaves, fern and foliage they joyfully created masterpieces.
The artists explored the technique of creating the most versatile decoration one can use to bring some traditional warmth into the home at Christmas. A truly original ornament that one can use in countless ways for years to come.
This evoked a feeling of embracing the festive spirit while the children delved into the artistic wonders of the holiday season. Students were stimulated by this empowering creativity and their imagination led to a successful day. Taking the time to talk and enjoy one another's company and relish the spirit of Christmas was mutually experienced by those present.
