Celebrating Indias Independence with song

It was a colourful afternoon at The Indian School-Second Shift. The children came dressed in white kurta pyjamas and tri colour dupattas. The indomitable spirit of nationalism and patriotism was seen in the students of class I, II and III as they prepared for the First Inter class Patriotic Group Song Competition on 18 August, 2017. The event was a culmination of the Independence Day celebrations. The children's faces were lit with a footloose and fun filled spirit, apt on the anniversary of our freedom!

The judges for the competition were Ms. Suchismitha Chatterjee, HOD- Indian Music, The Indian School and Ms. Nilanjana Chatterjee of The Indian School-Second Shift. The event began with the different sections of class I singing along to the tunes of different patriotic songs, followed by classes II and III. Each class had its own style and tried to be different with its presentation. Some used flags while some stood in the formation of the colours of the flag and some others sported tricolour duppattas. Yet together, they offered the same message.

It was a delightful experience to watch kids aged between 5 and 8 years sing so soulfully, with intonations and rhythm. The best part of the competition was that every class had 100% participation.

Both judges applauded the young participants kids on a wonderful performance. They insisted that they felt every class was a winner. They also spoke a few words about the meaning of independence for our country.

Every competition must have a winner too! So it was time for the decisions. Our Academic Head Ms. Susan Thomas announced the results as the students waited eagerly. A pin drop silence filled the auditorium. Well not only children but also their teachers were impatient to hear the results!

Ms. Thomas congratulated all the children at first, for their hard work and appreciated the effort of the Indian Music teacher, Mr. Amit Vaid.

Then came the most awaited moment of the daythe results! Class III A, II B AND I D were declared the WINNERS. The walls of the auditorium reverberated with the cheering that followed. Everyone was upbeat and the winning classes got chocolates too!
