CBSE teacher workshop on Gender Sensitivity in Schools
A workshop on Gender Sensitivity in Schools was successfully conducted on 20th September 2024 at The Indian School-Second Shift under the guidance of Principal, Ms Tania Joshi. The initiative was part of CBSE's ongoing effort to promote inclusivity and gender sensitivity among educators and students. The workshop aimed to empower teachers with strategies to foster a classroom environment that upholds gender equality and raises awareness about gender issues.
The session commenced with an insightful introduction to the concept of mental health and wellness emphasising the importance of maintaining emotional, psychological, and social well being. The discussion was thoughtfully connected to the issue of gender equality, highlighting how disparities between genders can affect mental health.
The discussions revolved around the issue of gender inequality and the need for gender equity and inclusivity in the classroom, emphasising the acceptance of transgenders in the mainstream education system.
The teachers were introduced to the concept of gender sensitivity and how it plays a pivotal role in challenging stereotypes.The workshop included a discussion on practical strategies to promote gender equality in the classroom. This included equal participation opportunities for all students, avoiding gendered language, and addressing gender-based biases or stereotypes in teaching materials. Teachers participated in group discussions that focused on recognising and addressing gender biases. The workshop concluded with a group activity where the teachers devised a lesson plan based on an attempt to integrate gender equality in classroom discourse
The workshop on Gender Equality and Sensitivity through the Classroom was highly successful in raising awareness and providing teachers with effective tools to promote gender equality.
