A day at the Traffic Park for Pre- primary
Make way for the high-spirited children of The Indian School-Second Shift, as they put on their travelling shoes and backpacks stuffed with lip-smacking snacks and munchies and set off on the buses destined for The Traffic Training Park on Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
The day was picture-perfect, a breezy afternoon on 5th August, 2015. The little ones were made familiar with basic traffic rules and responsibilities that citizens should adhere to, in fact adopt in order to foster safety and welfare for everyone.
The Traffic Training Park is a setup functioning under the aegis of Delhi Traffic Police. Do not be deceived by the word park because unlike the customary green trees, lazy benches, seasonal flowers and sparkling ponds in conventional parks, here everything is replicated by miniature roads, pavements, traffic lights, zebra crossings, and even a yellow bus stand! Established during the 1960s, the traffic park also has a foot-over bridge.

On arriving, the children were cordially received by the coordinators of Honda Motorcycles and Scooters Ltd. who, in collaboration with Delhi Traffic Police provides instructions and information on the diverse traffic rules and measures to visitors. The hosts gave the children a tour of the park and patiently answered queries.
Next, there was a quiz where the children had to tell the different traffic signs and symbols. It was both enjoyable and informative for the children. The children got first hand lessons on the necessities and outcomes of following/neglecting traffic norms when they saw picture clippings on the Smart board where images of roads in different situations were shown.
A highly informative and an amusing day came to an end at 4 pm. After much learning, sightseeing, travelling, singing and merry-making the children returned to school. They were very animated and seemed barely able to wait to share their experience with their friends and loved ones!
The objective of this excursion was to provide a tangible experience and a hands'-on learning opportunity for the children on traffic rules, to lay the foundation for building wiser and better informed citizens of tomorrow.
