'Happy Feet'- Pre primary classes
“Dance is the hidden language of the soul.”
- Martha Graham
Dance enjoys undisputed importance in the life of a kindergartener. It is an integral part of the learning process, strengthening motor skills with rhythm.
In this direction, the pre-primary classes of The Indian School-Second Shift held their annual dance presentation, ‘Happy Feet’ on 9 October, 2020. The theme of the event this time was the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 14- ‘Life below Water’ which is about sustainably managing and protecting the marine and coastal ecosystems from pollution.
The children dressed in colourful attire were very excited about the occasion. They were carefully prepared and demonstrated what they had learned skilfully.
A scintillating dance performance to the song “Magical mystery under the sea, Magical fun for you and me…” had the children handle their colourful props of sea animals with care and poise as they matched steps to song. They also spoke a few lines about the sea animals they had learnt about. The teachers then used maps of India, Japan and Australia to explain how the seas surround great land masses and are home to such a treasure of bio diversity. Like any treasure we have to thus take special care to ensure that these are preserved.
A presentation about aquatic animals and a quiz about them concluded the 'edutaining' occasion. The animation on the children's faces was utterly infectious!
