Swachchhta Abhiyaan in our School neighbourhood
"The objective of cleaning is not just to clean, but to feel happiness living within that environment." — Marie Kondo
Keeping the environment clean is a key factor to being healthy. Many disease-causing germs exist in dirty environments, such as the ones that cause diarrhoea and worm infections. Thus, many diseases can be prevented through good personal hygiene, and by keeping the environment clean.
It is very essential to keep our surroundings clean just like we keep our bodies clean. An initiative was taken by the students of The Indian School-Second Shift under the Citizenship Programme, whereby they cleaned the neighbouring areas of our School.
On 4 September 2023, students of class 7, including Shubh, Sahas, Praneil, Momin, Kanishka, Sukaina, Chirag, Tanmay, Maira, Ananya, Harshil and T. Deepan took part in the cleanliness drive.
The students wore masks and gloves and enthusiastically began cleaning. They had brooms, dust pans and waste disposal bags and went to areas around our School and collected the litter lying around including wrappers, plastic bottles, polythene bags, etc. The students swept the road with the brooms. They collected the waste with the help of the dust pans and then dropped it in the disposal bags.
The idea for this drive was to sensitise students about the hazards of littering the roads and to create an awareness in them that littering increases the already high levels of pollution. Additionally, the students experienced the predicament of the sanitation workers while cleaning the roads.
