The students of classes 8, 9 and 10 of The Indian School-Second Shift undertook some activities to spread awareness about population issues. Students of class 8 designed posters, portraying the imbalance of available natural resources due to the growing global population.
The students of classes 9 and 10 did a comparative study of the current population of Delhi with the union territories of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep Islands. Through the study, they analysed the effect of population on the availability of land. They also discussed the problems being faced throughout India such as unemployment, illiteracy, migration, pollution, hunger etc., which are mostly linked to the population explosion. This research work revealed to the students how all these problems are outcomes of uncontrolled population.
The day was observed at School with a view to inculcate in the children, the idea that over-population is a man made problem and leads to a scarcity of natural resources. They were effectively made to realise that it is the responsibility of every citizen to take measures to maintain the ecological balance of Mother Earth.
