WORLD OZONE DAY 2020 observed at TFS
‘Earth without the ozone layer is like a house without a roof; Save the Ozone layer.’
“World Ozone Day is observed around the world every year on 16 September. This event commemorates the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987, on substances that deplete the ozone layer. The theme for this year’s celebration, as given by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) is “ Ozone for life: 35 years of ozone layer protection.”
In great enthusiasm The Indian School-Second Shift observed the occasion with an array of activities to spread awareness amongst students.
The students were familiarised with the meaning and utility of the Ozone layer and the need to dedicate a day for it. They were encouraged to adopt certain good practices in day-to-day life to conserve the Ozone layer. Small but significant changes in our daily lives can make a big difference to reducing the production of substances that deplete the layer.
An online poster making competition was arranged for classes 3 to 5 on the topic, ³‘The Deteriorating Effect of Ozone-Depleting Substances on the Atmosphere and Living Beings.’ The students designed elaborative and captivating posters making it tough to select the best. A Best Poster was selected from each class. The winners of the competition were Ransher Sharma of class 3, Mohd. Areeb of class 4 and Ankush Mondal of class 5.
A virtual quiz was held for the students of classes 6 to 8. The students enthusiastically participated in a healthy and fair competition. The first position was secured by Diya Mishra of class 8, first runner-up was Prachurya of class 6 and second runner up was Samarth of class 7.
Events such as this greatly students to be sensitised to protecting the environment. We hope that we will be building wise and compassionate citizens of a green Earth.
