World Mental Health Day activities

“Health does not always come from medicine. Most of the time it comes from peace of mind, peace in the heart, peace in the soul. It comes from laughter and love.”

World Mental Health Day is observed on 10th October every year, with the objective of raising awareness about mental health issues and mobilising efforts in support of better mental health. This year's theme is “Make Mental Health and Well being for all a Global Priority”.

The Indian School-Second Shift observed World Mental Health Day through various activities planned at each level.

The little munchkins of Pre School practiced mindfulness activities like "Buddies Yoga", "Listen to the Bell"and "Fly like a Butterfly". These activities helped them self-regulate, promote positive emotions and self compassion.

The tiny tots of Pre Primary were informed about the need to focus on diet, sound sleep and positive thinking for maintaining a healthy mind. They did awareness building exercises and yoga to calm themselves. Students participated in an activity named ‘Hello Yellow’, wore yellow clothes and drew the shining sun with a picture of themselves in it.

In class 1, World Mental Health Day was observed by sensitising the students about positive thinking. They made posters and wrote slogans on mental health. An activity was also conducted wherein the students picked up positivity notes for themselves like I love myself, It’s okay to make mistakes, My choices matter, I am proud of myself etc.

The students of class 2 celebrated this day with great enthusiasm by performing mindfulness activities. They learned how simple mindfulness practice can help them learn to calm their bodies and minds and set a positive tone for the day ahead.

In class 3, students discussed the need to focus on diet, sound sleep and positive thinking in maintaining a healthy mind . They did meditation for the well being of the mind. It proved to be an enriching and enlightening experience for the students

The students of class 4 engaged in many mindfulness activities for good mental health. They were taken on a nature walk at School and learned to meditate to calm their minds amidst nature. They also practiced gratitude by showing appreciation for each other. They constructed a 'gratitude tree' in their classes with thank you messages for each other and the slips noting down the things they appreciate in life.

To understand the importance of World Mental Health Day, the students of class 5 had a healthy classroom discussion. They discussed different ways one must articulate about our mental health.

Class 6 students made posters on mental health and how to remain stress free in today's fast lifestyle. As a brainstorming activity, students were asked what activities can help maintain good mental health and the same were discussed in class.

Students of class 7 participated in various activities like poster making, singing, group discussion and slogan writing. During the group discussion, various issues related to mental health were discussed.

In class 8, students made posters to raise awareness on how we can make mental health and well being a priority for all.

Class 9 students participated in a healthy classroom discussion on how we can rekindle our efforts to improve mental health.

The students understood the importance of prioritising mental health and well being for all as children in good mental health, are better able to work towards their potential and also establish and maintain relationships with those around them.
