Workshop on Optics for class 10

"I hear and I forget.  I see and I remember.  I do and I understand."

~Confucius

The students of class 10 of The Indian School-Second Shift attended “Riding Alongside a Light Beam”, an optic-based Physics workshop on 11 July 2023 at Birla Vidya Niketan School,  Pushp Vihar. Resource person, Ms. Pragya Nopany, conducted the workshop to ingrain skills of  critical thinking amongst the students by engaging them in hands-on learning activities.

The workshop was very interactive and lively. Some concepts that remain untold in the books were explored at the workshop and presented by Ms Nopany in a very engaging way. With the help of simple activities, she explained certain complex topics in an easy manner. Activities were based on the topics done in class like refractive index, lateral inversion, multiple reflection of light, diffused reflection and the formation of shadows through lenses. Multiple activities were also conducted, such as the comparison of the refractive index of oil and glass, the formation of an image through a rough surface, the formation of multiple images of an object when it is placed between two mirrors and how an infinite number of images are formed when mirrors are placed parallelly, and the formation of shadows with the help of concave and convex lenses.

The session was greatly enriching and took the students on a breath-taking journey of discovery in the arena of optical phenomena through experiential learning. It was a great opportunity for students to explore the world of Physics in a fun way, which they would retain in the long run.
