Workshop on Newspaper Recycling for classes 1 and 2
A workshop on newspaper recycling by Hindustan Times was conducted at The Indian School- Second Shift on 21st March 2023. The objective of this workshop was to educate students about the importance of recycling and how they can contribute to preserving the environment. It focused on newspaper recycling, which is a significant step towards reducing the negative impact of paper waste on the environment.
Ms Namita Saxena, resource person, is a highly knowledgeable and experienced personality in the field of waste management and recycling. She has participated and curated various national and international exhibitions. The students of classes 1 and 2 participated in the workshop. They were encouraged to recycle old newspapers in a creative and entertaining way throughout the workshop.
The expert began the workshop by providing an overview of the current state of waste management and explained the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling for the conservation of environment and natural resources. Further, she demonstrated step-by-step, the process of newspaper recycling to the students and explained how it works by making interesting products using a collection of old newspapers. The children were shown how simple craft, such as making a paper boat or a paper bag, from old newspapers. The children were actively involved in the activity and loved recycling newspapers. With the assistance of the expert, they created beautiful picture frames from old newspapers to display their creativity.
The children were also taught how to sort newspapers based on the colour, quality and thickness of the paper.
The workshop on newspaper recycling was informative and engaging for the students. It helped create new awareness among students about the importance of recycling and how they can contribute to the preservation of the environment. The workshop also inspired students to actively participate in recycling programmes at school and in the community.
It is hoped that the knowledge gained from this workshop will help students to become responsible future citizens and contribute to a sustainable future.
