Workshop for teachers on Designing an Engaging Classroom for Learners.
The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, The children are now working as if I did not exist. Maria Montessori.
The faculty members of The Indian School-Second Shift attended a workshop on learning objectives by Ms. Shweta Talwar on Saturday, 4th March 2017. Ms. Talwar has wide experience as a teacher, a trainer and an English language facilitator for ESL.
The workshop aimed at designing lessons with outcome-based objectives that can make teaching more engaging. The teachers sat in groups of 4 for effective interaction. We started with an ice breaker story-based activity in order to identify the needs of a child.

Ms. Talwar focused on the importance of early childhood learning and the various domains of learning. She shed valuable light on the six levels of learning as listed by Benjamin Bloom (Blooms Taxonomy). She also introduced the concept of SMART objectives (specific, measurable, attainable, result-oriented and time bound), to make it easier for teachers to plan their lessons. The workshop dealt with the prime concern of preparing students for a rapidly changing environment and instilling an ability to adapt and adjust. It focused on the need for cognitive development for a child in order to Retain, Process, and Apply information.
The speaker spoke about tapping into Multiple Intelligences in the classroom to build upon traditional activities used. This enables the child to deal with the environment armed with skills to navigate through knowledge.
The workshop was very thought-provoking and informative. It gave fresh insights into perfecting our lesson plans. It was a wonderful opportunity for our teachers to meet and interact with Ms. Talwar.
