Virtual Session With Peers In Russia For Class 5A
We need to embrace technology to make learning more engaging because when students are engaged and they are interested, that’s when learning takes place.”
On 9 November 2021, the students of class 5A accompanied by their English teacher Ms Kanika Batheja attended a collaborative session with Ms Molokanova Daria, an ESL teacher from Poimimir Mir Language Centre in the city of Voronezh, Russia, along with her students. The excitement was infectious when the students saw each other on the Zoom platform.
Storytelling is one of the most effective ways to communicate with students. A story stays with the children for much longer than facts or statistics, as it is a journey of wonderment and understanding of the world around us. To deepen a love for stories, Syed Abid narrated a fun story “The Elves and the Shoemaker” for the guests. The keen viewers listened in rapt attention. The accompanying slides depicting scenes from the story added to the experience. The session was followed by a short question-answer session.
Both the schools exchanged information about their schools and countries. They played Mystery Animal, a guessing game based on the animals they see in their countries. The budding friendship was noticeable through smiles which were ample on each face!
The students on both sides shared their love for books and discussed the books they read. The young Russians were enthralled and excited to see our students speak English proficiently, and requested some peer teaching sessions in the near future.
The session concluded with a promise to meet again with folktale sharing.
