The Junior Jamboree 2015!

On a bright and breezy Saturday morning, 12th of December, The Indian School-Second Shift celebrated its first Sports Day, the Junior Jamboree 2015! Each moment was full of zest and jubilation. The children pranced around the track looking vibrant in their colourful attires, each grade dressed in their own specific colours and patterns. We had a full house of very spirited spectators, each parent keen to watch their little ones perform. The day opened with a remarkable display of skating by the students of classes 1, 2 and 3. This was followed by the release of balloons by our Chief Guest, also our Chairperson, Mr. Praful Goradia; which implied the Junior Jamboree15 had been declared open!

This palpable enthusiasm rising within both audience and participants was efficiently translated into melody by the TFS choir, who gleefully sang the very inspirational Aashayen. Many parents also sang along, such was the magic of their heartfelt rendition. Mr. Goradia then addressed the gathering with his motivating words. Soon after, the preschool students broke into a pulsating Aerobics Display. They looked exceptionally cute as they jiggled-and-wiggled to the peppy music, and had the exultant parents asking for more. The day saw the commencement of flat races for each class, and many interesting relays like the Pack Your Bag and Little Bunny Race for Preschool; the Obstacle Race and Go Green Race for Pre-Primary; Pass the Ball Relay for Class 1, Clean Your School Race for Class 2 and the Bead and Hoopla Race for Class 3. These games and contests were designed not just as means to sharpen a childs gross motor skills, but also as a channel to develop his cognitive, language and social skills. Through such out-of-the-box relay races, each child was implicitly guided to think, to discern, to learn new words, new prepositions in action, and very importantly, to appreciate the merit of working as a team. Other highlights of the day were the Pyramids Display presented by students of Pre-Primary, and the Hoopla Drill and Yoga Display put up by classes 1, 2 and 3. The Pyramids act was an exemplary one, involving many difficult double-tier formations by our tiny tots! Indeed, it had the audience enraptured. The Grand Finale truly lived up to the expression Jamboree. It was a breathtaking celebration of colour and zeal, which began with some slick dance moves, followed by each TFS student marching in to join one another on the track, for one last moment of cheer! The programme was concluded by a vote of thanks by Head Teacher Ms. Susan Thomas, followed by the School Song. The programme was an enormously exuberant and fulfilling affair. The beaming faces of the kids and the pride in their parents eyes said it all. Upasana Bhattacharya
