Teacher workshop -Technology in Education

Teaching in 21st century expects teachers to not only design creative curriculum but to also facilitate children to be critical thinkers. Here, technology plays an enabling role. On 28th June, 2019 Ms. Kanika and Ms. Anjali, teachers of TFS conducted a workshop- Technology in Education to acquaint teachers with a few practical online tools for becoming more digitally proficient.

The workshop commenced with the teachers getting familiarised with the term Netizens. A Netizen (a Net Citizen), exists as a citizen of the world thanks to the global connectivity that the Net makes possible.

The first tool introduced was Coggle.com, a freeware mind-mapping web application. Coggle produces hierarchically structured documents, like a branching tree which provide either linear (text document), or tabular (spreadsheet) document formats. Coggle supports export to PNG image and vector PDF formats as also import from plain-text outlines.

The second tool introduced was Word Art which is a format to build many word clouds of various shapes. Through this particular tool we enhance the vocabulary of our students in a fun away using different colours and further help them assemble their built up vocabulary in shapes.

The next one was Cram.com create and share online flashcards. This particular tool can be used vastly in the primary level as it provides online readymade flashcards on every topic. This application provides millions of flashcards which are printable too.

Flipsnack was the next application in which one can turn any PDF file into an online book. In this application we can upload a PDF file and self-design it and before we publish it we can set the visibility options.

The second last application was a Kahoot game where a small quiz based on the workshop conducted was held. Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform, used as educational technology. Its learning games, "Kahoots", are multiple-choice quizzes that can be accessed via a web browser, phone, or the app itself.

The session conclude with a few energizers led by Ms. S. Thomas.

The workshop was entertaining as well as very informative!
