A workshop on the Principles of Learning in Hindi Teaching was conducted on 23rd November 2024 at Amrita Vidyalaya, Saket. The session was led by Ms Neeru Bhugra, educationist focused on innovative methodologies for integrating Hindi with other subjects and the teaching of grammar.
Ms Bhugra emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary learning. She discussed how teachers can connect Hindi literature with subjects like history, geography, and science. For instance, historical stories in Hindi could be linked to important historical events, while descriptive essays could incorporate scientific concepts.
A major highlight was the approach to teaching grammar contextually. Instead of isolating grammar rules, Ms Bhugra suggested deriving grammatical concepts directly from the text being taught. For example, sentences from the chapter could be used to teach tenses, subject-verb agreement, or sentence structures, making grammar learning more relatable and engaging for students.
Teachers were asked to write a short passage about themselves, which was then read by their peers. This activity highlighted the importance of writing and listening skills, along with fostering a sense of collaboration among educators.
Another engaging activity involved teachers crafting a story based on a given storyline. This exercise showcased the creative potential of language and encouraged educators to design similar story-based learning activities for students.
The workshop was interactive and well-received by the attendees. Teachers appreciated the practical strategies shared by Ms Bhugra and expressed enthusiasm about implementing them in their classrooms. The hands-on activities were particularly effective in demonstrating the principles discussed, making the session both enjoyable and insightful.
The workshop successfully highlighted the dynamic ways in which Hindi teaching can be made more integrated and contextual. It inspired teachers to think beyond traditional teaching methods and adopt innovative practices that not only enhance language learning but also encourage holistic development in students.
