Teacher workshop on Digital Assessment Tools

"You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives."

- Clay P. Bedford

Assessment tools have been around for ages, but in the last decade, the term has transposed beyond the traditional exams. In order to facilitate new age strategies  to enhance student learning, teachers of The Indian School-Second Shift participated in a Digital Assessment Tools workshop, conducted by The Indian School on 8th June 2021.

There are various types of assessment in education and via this workshop teachers explored methods by which learning outcomes can be achieved during a lesson. Some of the tools for active learning discussed during the session were Anchor.fm, a podcast platform that gives students the access to previous lectures and clarifications on a subject or to stimulate the learning of the same, Liveworksheets.com is another example. To facilitate team-building- Microsoft OneNote- which lets the teacher decide upon the best pedagogy to use in a given situation, and for fostering peer-to-peer learning tools like- H5P, an abbreviation for the HTML5 Package enabling educators to create content such as interactive videos, quizzes, and presentations.

The workshop facilitated alternative assessment methods such as Learning real-time for subjects like Maths- one can use interactive games like - in.ixl.com, Mathschase.com or geogebra.com. Websites like inaturalist.com or desmos.com can be utilized for Science.

Although these tools are all online, there can be a few technical considerations to look at. Most are easy to use, however, extra time to learn how to use and navigate them can be required. The workshop helped in enabling the teachers select the right digital assessment tool (assessment software), independent of the assessment methodology or any associated services.
