Storytelling workshop for teachers

A wise man once said, “After nourishment, shelter, and companionship, stories are what we need most in the world.” Stories give wings to our imagination and take us to the land of fairies, dragons, and wishing trees.

The Art of Storytelling workshop was held on 26 October 2023  from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. It was conducted by Ms Monika Tandon, well-known storyteller, author, and founder of Katha Pachisi: The Story Bank and Mr Herok Pal, co-founder of Khisaaghar, a branch of Katha Pachisi. 15 participants from different walks of life attended the workshop aimed to equip listeners with critical life skills such as self-awareness, effective communication, confidence and creative expression. Ms Rekha Sharma, teacher in the primary section.

During the session, Ms Tandon explained the storytelling framework, including its situation, complications, questions, and answers. She narrated the real-life story of Gary Kasparov and asked the participants to spot the moral values in it. The moral of the story was the importance of forgiveness, gratitude, inner beauty, satisfaction, and confidence.

The workshop aimed to enhance the listeners' imaginative skills and make learning more enjoyable while teaching good values. It helped participants reflect and ponder while also giving them a chance to tap into their creative side.

The key takeaways of the workshop were the tools of storytelling fundamentals and its core principles. Participants were enlightened about using vocabulary creatively, voice modulation, gestures, facial expressions, and other factors for effective communication.

Overall, the Art of Storytelling workshop was a great learning opportunity, providing exposure to the techniques used for storytelling. It was an enriching workshop that left the participants with a good understanding of the art of storytelling.
