Let’s salute the nation on this auspicious day.
Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and respect at TFS. The ceremony started in the School front lawn at 2.30 pm.
To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, Vice Chairperson Ms. Brinda Shroff and Development Advisor, Ms. Susan Thomas unfurled the tricolor flag and all students in unison sang the national anthem.
As everyone gathered in the auditorium for the special assembly, it was immensely beautiful to see the little tricolour flags happily fluttering along the sides. Dhairya Saran (VII A), welcomed everyone and elaborated upon some unique facts of the 73rd celebration of independence.
The assembly began with a soulful rendition by Anshika Priya (VI A). She sang the timeless patriotic song ‘Ae mere Watan ke Logo’.
With Raksha Bandhan on the same day it added a reason for a bigger celebration. The tiny tots of class 1 dressed in colourful traditional attire presented and exhuberant dance. Following this, our brother and sister duo, Alvira Imam and Omar Imam, presented a skit on how Rakshabandhan should be ‘ gender meutral’ and even brothers can tie the rakhi on their sisters!
Further the programme was embellished by a graceful dance by the girls of classes VI, VII, VIII on ‘ I am India’ depicting the different colourful cultures of our country.
The spirit of freedom and nationalism was well exhibited by the students of classes VI, VII, VIII in a mime. The boys dressed in black and their faces covered with masks showcased patriotism-from the independence struggle through the Jallianwallah Bagh Massacre, Bhagat Singh till the Pulwama attack and the surgical strikes. The narration in gestures and bodily movements was so crisp and perfect that we all had goosebumps watching it.
Following this was a quiz conducted by Raunak Gupta VIA. The quiz was designed class wise and the children who gave the correct answer were given seed flags.
Rhea Grover (VIIA) reminded us about why we need to keep Independence Day celebrations eco friendly. She suggested some measures like saying no to plastic flags, ensuring kites are flown safely as these can hurt birds and lead to road accidents. She also spoke about ‘VrikshaBandhan’ an initiative to protect and take responsibility for trees by tying a sacred thread around them. The cultural programme ended with both teachers and students pledging to serve their motherland whole heartedly.
The celebration concluded with some inspiring words by Ms. Susan Thomas followed by the national anthem.
