Special assembly for Gurupurab in Pre primary

Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the founder of Sikhism and his birth is commemorated as ‘Gurupurab’ across the globe. Guru Nanak Dev Ji travelled widely to spread the message of oneness and compassion. 

This year Guru Nanak Jayanti will be celebrated on 30 November, 2020 .To observe this auspicious occasion, Pre Primary students presented a special assembly virtually with in enthusiasm and fervour on 27 November 2020. 

  

The children explained that Guru Nanak Jayanti is the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and it is therefore an occasion to celebrate. The participants were dressed in colourful kurta- pyjamas and salwar suits. By turn the young students explained the three main tenets of the Sikh religion, which are as follows:-

·  Kirat Karni- This mean that honest labour is the only way to earn one’s livelihood.

· Wand Chakhna - This tenet implies that one should share one’s food with others.

· Naam Japna- It says that one should remember God at all times.

Young Jaisvi explained that Gurupurab is a three day long celebration. She spoke about how Akhand Path is observed at gurudwaras and the Guru Granth Sahib ( the writings and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji)  is continuously read for 48 hours.

Harshit spoke about of the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji. 

Khanak explained that langars at gurudwaras are a way by which the members of the community by turn engage to serve the community  in accordance with the teachings of  Guru Nanak Dev Ji. 

Atharv shared with us that Gurupurab is celebrated in the full moon in the month of Kartik  known as “Kartik Purnima”.

Jasreet and Danica chanted the Shabad- “Ek Onkar” and explained the Mool Mantra.

A group of students performed a skit which showcased ina simple way, the teachings of  Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

After the special assembly, the children crafted hand made Kanghas. They were told the importance of the Kangha and how combing the hair reminds them that their lives should be tidy and organised.

The children lent a hand at making the Kada Prashad with their parents as Thanksgiving. 

Danica’s mother explained the importance of the Five Ks in Sikhism.

The assembly ended with the enactment of “Prabhat Pheri” where all the students and teachers of Pre Primary togther participated.
