Special assembly for Dussehra in Pre primary

“May this Dussehra, light up for you, the hopes of happy times, and dreams for a year full of smiles.”

Dussehra signifies the victory of good over evil, truth over falsehood and dharma over adharma. The festival teaches us to follow the path of  righteousness and truth. It marks the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana in the great epic, the  Ramayana. It is also the victory of Ma Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura.

To introduce the significance of the occasion, a special assembly on Dussehra was held virtually on 14 October, 2020.

The teachers told the children, the story of the Ramayana and of the homecoming of  Lord Rama. A video was also beamed to depict the way the festival is traditionally celebrated. Giant effigies of the ten headed Ravana are set alight as a symbol of the burning of all evil.

A quiz on what was learned, was then held to cap the assembly and the response was very animated! There were many volunteers for every question, with many others in the audience prompting the volunteers! It was a great delight to observe learning being achieved in so much fun!

At the end, a craft activity taught the students to cut/ paste and paint to create a mask of Ravana’s face.

The little students learnt how, despite Ravana's wisdom of 10 heads, his pride and wrong doing became the cause of his defeat.
