Skype Session Report

Country - Vietnam Grades IV and V 4th October 5th October 2018

The students of classes IV and V had an educative Skype session with educators in Vietnam for two consecutive days.

The Skype session started on 4th October 2018 with the students of the Posts and Telecommunication Institute of Technology, Vietnam. Nancy, the educator, informed our students about Vietnamese culture, traditions and the uniqueness of their geographical S-shaped map. Our children were thrilled to know that their national flower is also the Lotus. Nancy enlightened our children about the significance of the gold five-pointed star and the red flag. The five points in the gold star symbolise intellectuals, peasants, soldiers, workers and the youth. The red symbolises the revolutionary struggle of the Vietnamese people. This interesting session concluded with the Kahoot game based on Vietnam and our enthusiastic children could answer almost all the questions successfully.

The second Skype session, that happened on the 5th October 2018, was with the students of the Vo Nguyen Giap Primary School, Vietnam. Our students were highly excited to interact with the children of Dieu Duong, the educator, who threw light upon the traditional food, clothes, modes of transportation, national emblems etc. Her children had prepared placards with messages of friendship. We exchanged our ways of greeting each other on various occasions. It was so much fun for our students to be able to learn and speak a few Vietnamese words! The children from Vietnam sang a Vietnamese song for us and we, in return, also sang We shall overcome. The Kahoot game was extremely engaging for our children. Their high scores in the game kept them in high spirits.

The Skype sessions have greatly influenced and inspired our children to collaborate with schools of the world and interact with the children on this global platform. Now, our children themselves come up with innovative ideas for the Skype sessions and prepare for them creatively. They make their own placards and contents to add on to the beauty of this state-of-the-art interactive method of learning that has been efficiently carried forward and supported by The Indian School-Second Shift.
