Skype marathon for classes 3-8

On December 15, 2021, a Skype Marathon was organised at The Indian School-Second Shift by Ms. Neelima Oberoi wherein, classes 3-8 collaborated with the educators and their students from multiple countries of the globe.

Ms Oberoi teacher contacted educators in Vietnam, Moscow, Bangladesh, Poland, and India virtually and discussed possible topics of mutual interest for discussion. A suitable timetable was the formulated for the session incorporating all the collaborators. The topics chosen were culture, festivals, heritage sites, Mahatma Gandhi, seasons, hobbies, activities at school etc. The students were excited and eager to meet their counterparts in the other countries and prepared for the sessions with utmost zeal and enthusiasm.

The students of xlass 3C along with their class teacher Ms. Neelima Oberoi connected with Ms. Hoa Lan and her students at the Hoang Van Thu Primary School in Lao City, Vietnam. The session commenced with warm greetings from both  ends after which the students shared information about the culture and festivals of their countries. The students of both the schools were delighted to know the different traditions and festivals. The joyful session ended with a promise to meet again.

The second session of the day was again for the students of class 3C with Ms. Nguyen Annie, educator from Son La in Vietnam. Our students showcased beautiful presentations on the various heritage sites of India. The guest teacher was delighted to know about the sites and confessed that she would love to visit these sites someday! Irtiqa Khan of class 3C also presented a beautiful peacock dance for her Vietnamese peers. The guest teacher was enthralled by the performance and was full of praise for our students. The session ended with a Namaste.

The third session of the day was for the students of class 4B along with their English teacher Ms. Neelima Oberoi and Mr. Nazmul Haque, an educator in Bangladesh. The session started with a warm welcome by Suryanshi for the guest teacher. This was followed by presentations about the climate, physical features and diverse culture of India. The educator in turn showed videos and presentations about the culture and places of heritage in Bangladesh. Our young Indianites were delighter to see the beauty of our neighbouring country.

The fourth session of the day was for the students of class 4B with Ms Helen Shramkova-Kapatsin, an educator at Smart Teens Studio in Belgorod, Russia. The session started with a warm Namaste from our end and Privet from the other end. The student engaged in a traditional Mystery Skype game and were happy to surmise that their guest was from Russia!

Moving forward the students at both  ends exchanged information about the culture and cuisines of both the countries. To add more zeal to the session, our students presented an enticing skit describing different kinds of Indian sweets. It was an enriching session indeed.

The fifth session of the day was for classes 3C and 4B with Ms Bozena Hernacka and her students in Rybnik, Poland.  The students played Mystery Skype and guessed each other’s country. The students then talked about their schools and the activities they take part in. They also discussed each other’s hobbies. It was a fun filled session with a lot of learning.

The last session of the day was for the students of class 8 with An Phan and her students at the Ngoc Tao High School in Hanoi, Vietnam. Anshika Priya Patel and Vishakha Majumdar shared their presentation on the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and his contribution to India and to the world. On the other side the students in Vietnam shared their presentation on Ho Chi Minh, founder and first leader of Vietnam’s nationalist movement. The session was educational and enriching for all the students where they learnt about the culture of a new country on a virtual platform.

As, all good things come to an end  this action-packed day also came to an end on a very gratifying and blithesome note.
