Skype classroom on Halloween for Pre Primary Dove
Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon’s blood; Then the charm is firm and good.
- William Shakespeare
On October 29, 2021, the students of class Pre-Primary Dove along with their class teacher, Ms Neera Bhagat participated in a skype classroom with educator Ms Carla Mae Masculino of San Antonio De Manila School in the Philippines. It was Halloween and the children were dressed up as vampires, ghosts and other scary creatures!
Halloween means holy evening or All Saints Day. It is also believed that Halloween originates from an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. People wear spooky costumes and light bonfires at night. It is most practised in the United States of America and Canada. Halloween is a night celebration on October 31st and is referred to as ‘the scariest time of the year’.
The session started with a welcome by young Sharib. Soon the ' spooky characters' were ready to go trick or treat! In fact, as per the lore, it is said that the spirits of the dead come back to Earth in search of living bodies to repossess the homes where they had lived. The celebration of Halloween is therefore associated with the idea of good fortune.
In the same festive spirit, the children in their ghostly attire impressed everyone with their oratory skills during the ‘Show and Tell’ activity. They were introduced to the tale of Halloween with storytelling. The students also presented a Halloween rhyme. Later the children crafted paper pumpkins and danced to the Halloween song – “Spooky Spooky”.
The excitement was infectious as the students of Pre-Primary Dove enacted the characters they were dressed as. Educator Ms Musculino spoke to the children and they exchanged details of the festival and how and why it is celebrated.
The session ended on a promise to write emails to each other.
