Self-Discovery Week- April19

Classes 3 and 4

Throughout ones lifetime changes in a persons views towards life are inevitable. Those changes can be seen as either positive or negative based on the experiences a person goes through. Some changes are seen as internal while others are seen as external. Hence, at The Indian School-Second Shift every session begins with a Self-Discovery Week in which students not only become more aware of the newness in their themselves but also about the things theyve outgrown.

Self-Discovery Week for classes III and IV was scheduled from 1 to 5 April 2019. The entire week was packed with age specific activities thoughtfully designed to make the children discover their hidden potentials, emotions, likes and dislikes and thereby grow as individuals.

Students unlocked the week by filling up a questionnaire titled Who Am I?. The teachers aim was to build up the self-esteem and realisation that everyone has a different perception to life and there is more than one shade of every colour. The students were told to describe themselves using rich adjectives and their synonyms, building up their linguistic intelligence.

Mere sapno ki patang was a topic chosen by our Hindi teacher in which the students were asked to craft a kite and pen down their aims and wishes.

Just like elders, children too have a series of events they go through which shape their personalities and stir up numerous emotions in them. Students created a timeline to portray the major events of their life, as a part of the math activity.

Being liked and appreciated by your peers distinctly boosts ones self-confidence and self worth and the idea of going to school brings joy. Keeping this thought in mind the students created Certificates of Appreciation for their fellow mates.

Last but not the least, the Self-esteem Dice, a musical game was played by the students. They sat in a circle and played passing the Self-esteem Dice as the music played. Whoever was left holding the dice when the music paused, was expected to complete any one sentence displayed on the dice! In this activity, students got a chance to analyse their strengths and positive personality traits.

Self-discovery is when people turn to their surroundings to be able to see and establish themselves. Engaging our students in an exercise of self-discovery in their foundation years at The Indian School-Second Shift, enables them to hone their skills at realising their best potential as they grow.
