Sarvodaya Diwas celebrations on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti
Based on the ideals of truth, non-violence, service and sacrifice, ‘Sarvodaya’ refers to a movement started by Mahatma Gandhi, which propagated the idea of universal upliftment and the development and progress of all. The Indian School Second Shift observed Sarvodaya Diwas on 30th September, 2022 to honour the Father of our Nation especially in the 75th year of independence.
As customary, School invited the grandparents and honoured them as they represent the timeless values that must travel down the generations.
The event commenced with the Saraswati Vandana and moved on to a beautiful powerpoint presentation, showcasing India’s journey from servitude to independence. The tiny tots mesmerised everyone present with their presentation of Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, followed by some of the young students playing the roles of our freedom fighters such as Rani Lakshmi Bai, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu and so on. The senior students sang Vaishnav Jan To, one of Gandhiji’s favourite devotional songs.
The students paid their homage and tribute to their grandparents in a skit which showcased how grandparents become our friends, our parents, our mentors, our teachers and our partners in crime too! The students thanked their grandparents for being the backbone of the family and the tree that provides the shade. The grandparents were invited to share their perspectives of the meaning of freedom in today's context and the invaluable contribution of the founding fathers of our great nation. The horrors of partition and the formation of the India we know today were shed light upon.
Sarvodaya Diwas concluded with a vote of thanks to the grandparents and in the spirit of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'-a celebration of our great motherland and her ethos.
