Safer Internet Day- awareness activities across the class levels
“The internet is a wonderful tool but the technology is increasing faster than the safety message.”
Keeping the above idea in mind, The Indian School-Second Shift observed Safer Internet Day on 19 February 2021. The aim was to educate students about internet safety.
The students and parents of Pre-School were introduced to Safer Internet Day with a story telling session on Screen Time Management which focused on the harmful effects of long screen time. A discussion on how to manage a judicious screen time for the young ones brought forth valuable ideas.
The Pre Primary students made posters and pledged to maintain a safe online world. The children were also shown a puppet show based on the theme.
The students of classes I and 2 were shown videos to demonstrate ways in which internet can be used safely. Taking a step ahead, the students wrote doen five internet safety tips to reinforce awareness.
The students of class 3 were also shown videos which taught various safety tips which can be followed while using the internet. A discussion using various scenarios of information theft was conducted and safety tips regarding this were shared.
The students of class 4 used the tagline, “Together for a Better Internet” for their posters, mentioning the objectives of using technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
Class 5 had a discussion on “Making an effort together to make the internet a safer and better place for all”. Following the discussion, students were shown a short video with tips to make their internet surfing experience safe. Students also expressed their views on their experiences online.
The students of classes 6 , 7 and 8 were shown presentations on internet safety rules. This was followed by a discussion on the practices which can be adopted while attending online classes, events, workshops etc., to keep essential information like name, email ID phone numbers etc. safe from hacking. A discussion regarding cyber security rules was also done.
