Republic Day activities across the classes

Freedom in the mind, strength in the words, purity in our blood, pride in our souls, zeal in our hearts, let's salute our India on Republic Day.

26th January holds immense importance in our memory. Republic Day is a tribute to the freedom fighters who bravely fought for independence and also, the visionary leaders who played a pivotal role in drafting the constitution.

The Indian School-Second Shift celebrated India's 75th Republic Day with much pomp and glory. A plethora of activities were conducted from classes Pre School to 5 to infuse the spirit of unity, diversity and patriotism among the young students.

The students of Pre school engaged in a fun-filled tri-colour hat-making activity using newspaper and coloured them to make the three layers- saffron, white and green which resulted in vibrant hats representing the national flag. This activity led to the learning the importance of the different colours and symbols in the national flag and also, the development of fine motor skills.

Students in classes 1 and 2 created tri-coloured flowers using origami sheets. They learned to fold and cut the sheets to form petals representing the three colours of the national flag. This activity inculcated improved hand-eye coordination through crafting and recognition of the national flag's colours.

Students in classes 3 and 4 participated in a painting activity where they painted the Indian flag on a canvas. This hands-on approach helped them understand the flag's design and colours. This activity enhanced their knowledge about Republic Day and the Indian constitution, creativity and artistic skills through painting. Moreover, it focussed on understanding the symbolism underlying the national flag.

The students of class 5 took part in a two-fold activity. Firstly, they pledged to uphold the values of the Indian constitution. Then, they created posters using tri-colour elements illustrating critical elements of the constitution, which led to increasing awareness of the Constitution's role in shaping the nation and encouraging civic responsibility through the pledge. They were also briefed about the fundamental rights and duties.

Students celebrated this day with great enthusiasm. Classes 3-5 conducted an assembly on 25 January, 2024. It began with a desh bhakti hymn ‘Satrangi Rango Sa’ followed by a spectacular group dance performance to the song, ‘Des Rangila and Shubh Din Aayo Re’ by the students which elated the atmosphere with the spirit of patriotism in the audience. This was followed by poem recitation by the students of classes 4 and 5.

An inter-house quiz was held on the significance of Republic Day. The first position was taken by Venus House followed by Mars House and the Saturn House. The event was a success in building and fostering a sense of unity and togetherness among the individuals.
