Report on Diwali
Diwali is a festival of lights that symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
Keeping this in mind, the students of The Indian School - Second Shift celebrated the festival in great enthusiasm and joy on October 29th, 2024.
Pre school and Pre primary were told the story of Diwali by their teacher and together they sang festive rhymes. They expressed their creativity by painting and decorating diyas and crafting them using paper plates, which they adorned with vibrant colours and sparkles. Each child also made a special Diwali card to take home, sharing the festive spirit with his and her families. The activity filled the classroom with excitement and colourful creations, making it a memorable celebration for all.
The students of classes 1 and 2 celebrated the festival of lights by creating shapes and patterns on diyas with a 3D Fevicryl outliner. They also made beautiful diyas from origami sheets in great enthusiasm. Additionally, they spoke a few lines about the significance of celebrating the festival and were sensitised about the ill effects of crackers.
Class 3 watched a film-Bal Ramayana in class, followed by a discussion about the main characters of the great epic.
Class 4 celebrated Diwali with an art and craft activity that combined cultural learning with hands'-on fun. Students crafted paper diyas and designed rangoli patterns, learning about Diwali’s significance, including themes of light and positivity. They practiced skills like colour selection, symmetry, and teamwork while exploring Diwali traditions and symbols.
Class 5 students prepared personalised Diwali greeting cards using vibrant colours and recycled materials, encouraging creativity and helping them share heartfelt wishes with their friends. They also learned traditional dance steps, bringing the festive spirit to life with colourful costumes and lively music.
The students of classes 6 and 7 curated beautiful posters relating to Diwali as a part of a poster-making activity. They aimed to spread the message that Diwali is a festival of lights which brightens the lives of others, promoting a happy and green Diwali by saying no to firecrackers. A quiz was also conducted to enhance students' knowledge about Diwali's significance, traditions, and its cultural aspects.
Class 8 engaged in an eco-friendly activity, making handmade lanterns from recyclable items like paper, bottles, and cardboard transforming them into beautiful, vibrant lanterns. The activity highlighted the spirit of Diwali and emphasised the importance of celebrating this festival.
Class 9 participated in an essay-writing activity to explore the cultural, historical, and personal significance of this much loved festival.
Class 10 participated in an inter-house activity that focused on creating rangoli designs in celebration of Diwali. The event included presentations where students discussed the significance of Diwali, its traditions, and the values of hope and togetherness. Through this activity, students showcased their creativity and teamwork, using vibrant colours to create beautiful patterns.
The day was marked by a special assembly by classes 3-5 in the School auditorium. Students showcased the spirit of Diwali through a skit, speech, poem, and a dance presentation, adding exuberance and bringing great happiness and joy to the audience. A video about Diwali was shown, and the assembly concluded with Headmistress, Ms Sanjeeta Roy narrating a short story about the legend and the significance of the festival.
