Online aerobics session for teachers
“Hum Fit Toh India Fit” is the slogan of the "Fit India" Movement, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29th August 2019 at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium. It is a nationwide movement that seeks to encourage people to stay active and healthy by including exercise as part of one's daily routine.
In the spirit of this, the physical education department of The Indian School and The Indian School-Second Shift organised an aerobics session for the teachers of both schools on 28th November, 2020. Principal Ms Tania Joshi of The Indian School and Acting Principal Ms. Sukhmeen Cheema of The Indian School-Second Shift were a part of the session. It was an initiative taken as a reminder to take care of one's personal health and not lose sight of the importance of being active, even if at home.
The session started with a couple of warm-up exercises which included some light jogging on the spot, shoulder circles and stretches. The physical education teachers explained the importance of warming up the muscles before starting any exercise. They also explained the importance of aerobic exercises and advised everyone to include these in their everyday routine.
The teachers completed a home workout regime laid out by a fitness specialist. A video titled 'Walk off Fat Fast in 20 Minutes' by Leslie Sansone was shared. The teachers were told how quarantine didn't have to deter anyone from walking and getting daily exercise.
All the teachers enthusiastically completed the whole workout as the exercises were suitable for all ages and were low impact, which means they are suitable for anyone with physical ailments as well. The video was perfect for anyone who wants to start something light and fun.
The session concluded with a cool down where the physical education teachers shared the importance of cool down after exercise to avoid injuries. It was an interactive session for teachers, wherein they could ask questions relating to fitness and health. The physical education teachers did a fantastic job with giving accurate information and dispelling common myths about exercise.
Overall, it was a fun event and a great initiative which surely motivated the teachers to start exercising regularly.
