National Unity Day activities

“Everyone sees the world differently and everyone has a different idea of what makes something good but when we accept each other’s differences and learn to work together then the results are always unrivalled.”

The students of The Indian School – Second Shift observed National Unity Day to pay homage to India’s first Deputy Prime Minister, Sardar Vallabhai Patel. He is revered as the “Iron Man Of India” for his efforts in uniting our beloved motherland. This year 31st October was the 147th birth anniversary of this great leader.

The Sardar is also known as the “Unifier of India" and the occasion is also named ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.’

To pay tribute on the occasion, the students of class 1 made posters on preserving the unity, integrity and security of the motherland. The students of class 2 assembled a tree of cut outs of hand tracings cut-outs to signify equality among students no matter where they belong. An icon of national unity, Sardar Patel was fondly remembered by the students of classes 3, 4 and 5 who  promoted the value of national integration by making posters, writing slogans and taking a pledge to protect the country’s unity. The students of class 6 had an interactive session and wrote essays on three key topics namely unity, brotherhood and fraternity.

The students of classes 7, 8 and 9 attended a special class in social science on the concept of ‘Unity in Diversity’ in India. A quiz on National Unity was also held. Slogans were composed based on the teachings of the Sardar. A discussion on the role of Sardar Patel in the freedom movement was conducted in class.

It was a spontaneous effort showcasing the pride and the spirit of unity amongst all. The essence of the occasion was to  infuse the young future generation with the timeless values from the life of the Sardar.
