National Science Day activities
National Science Day is celebrated on 28th February each year to honour Dr C.V. Raman and his groundbreaking discovery of the Raman Effect, which earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics. To mark the occasion, the students of classes 3 to 7 at The Indian School – Second Shift engaged in a series of interactive and educational activities that deepened their understanding of science.
The class 3 students crafted models of the solar system and of the butterfly life cycle, making learning both visual and engaging. They also explored the concepts of transparent, translucent, and opaque materials through hands'-on experiments.
Class 4 watched educational science videos, followed by discussions and activities related to states of matter and simple machines, helping them connect theory with real-world applications.
Class 5 focused on technological advancements in earthquake-proof structures and healthcare innovations, understanding how science improves daily life. They also read newspaper articles aligned with the National Science Day theme, encouraging them to think critically about modern scientific developments.
In Class 6, students explored the fascinating world of magnets through experiments, learning about magnetic attraction, repulsion, and real-life applications. They also attended an insightful session on Dr C.V. Raman’s contribution, gaining a deeper appreciation for his work in physics.
Class 7 participated in an exciting presentation challenge, where the students randomly selected scientific topics and explained them to their peers using differentiated aids. Topics included electricity and circuits, acids and bases, plant respiration, the importance of water, and light refraction through a prism. This activity helped them develop confidence in scientific communication while reinforcing key concepts.
National Science Day 2025 celebrations at The Indian School – Second Shift were a resounding success, inspiring curiosity and a love for science among students. The event not only paid tribute to Dr C.V. Raman’s legacy also encouraged young minds to explore the wonders of science and its impact on the world.
