Literary Week
From 27th April to 1st May, 2015, The Indian School-Second Shift went literary! Various workshops on different aspects of Hindi and English literature were conducted by experts in the field. The children were all agog with the excitement of creative endeavour!
Stories serve as one of the most important educational and inspirational tools. Thus, the week began with a Storytelling session by a renowned storyteller and founder of Kathashala Ms. Simmi Srivastava. She captivated the children and the teachers alike, with stories culled from the classics. Along with her majestic art of storytelling, she used various aids like costumes, hand-puppets, life sized cutouts and a power- point presentation. She included a craft activity in which the children made (cotton) stuffed birds from used cloth pieces.
Next was a play, enacted by the students of The Indian School. It was a heady mix of drama, humour and creativity. The play was followed by a brief discussion and a question-answer round about the play.
Teachers of classes 1, 2 and 3 conducted various activities in the class like creating book covers, decorating dandiyas, knowing Gujarat through collage-making, drawing a small comic strip and even painting ' WANTED' posters of evil characters from their favourite stories!
The week concluded with a workshop about speech and drama. It taught the children to imagine as they learnt create and understand themselves and their surroundings better.
The Literary Week proved to be an enriching and inspiring experience for both the students and their teachers.
