JUGALBANDI 2024, our annual inter school dance and music competition
"An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one." Charles Horton Cooley
On August 2nd, 2024, The Indian School-Second Shift hosted a remarkable inter-school dance and music competition, Jugalbandi 2024, themed 'Navarasa.' This event celebrated the nine emotions or 'rasas' integral to classical Indian art, offering a vibrant display of talent and creativity that captivated both participants and spectators.
To set the tone of the event, the choir of The Indian School-Second Shift greeted the audience with a melodious tune “Swagatam”. The event was graced by our eminent chief guest, Dr (Mrs) Nayana Goradia, Ms Brinda Shroff and Principal Ms Tania Joshi.
Headmistress, Ms Sanjeeta Roy addressed the distinguished assembly and officially inaugurated the occasion. The auditorium was abuzz with excitement as the young performers from various schools of Delhi gathered, each ready to present their interpretation of the 'Navarasa' through dance and music.
The competition featured a distinguished panel of judges, each bringing a wealth of experience and expertise in the fields of music and dance.
Mr Aditya Kumar and Mr Vikas Kumar, noted Indian classical vocalist and trainer, respectively, were present to judge the music performances. Noted dance exponents, Mr Sunny Shishodiya and Ms Sonam Chauhan graced the panel as judges for the dance competition.
The event opened with mesmerising performances that were a mix of classical and contemporary styles. Each act was meticulously crafted to embody a blend of two the nine rasas: Shringara (love), Hasya (laughter), Karuna (compassion), Raudra (anger), Veera (courage), Bhayanaka (fear), Bibhatsa (disgust), Adbhuta (wonder), and Shanta (peace). The participants, adorned in vibrant costumes, used their art to convey deep emotions, leaving the audience spellbound. The host school did not compete for any position and only performed on occasion. As the competition came to a close, a nostalgic video was shown to the audience that traced the journey and evolution of Jugalbandi through the past years.
The event concluded with an award ceremony, where the best performances were recognised and celebrated. The Third Position in the dance category was taken by Amity International School, Dhaula Kuan, the Second Position by ITL Public School and the First Position by Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan. In the music category the Third Position was awarded to Birla Vidya Niketan, Pushp Vihar, the Second Position to The Indian School, and the winner was Gyan Bharti School, Saket.
The winners and participants were awarded certificates, their faces beaming with pride and joy. The day ended on a high note, with participants and attendees alike cherishing the artistic journey.
This competition was more than just a display of talent; it was a celebration of the rich cultural heritage that binds us together. It reinforced the idea that art, in its myriad forms, is a powerful medium to express the deepest human emotions.
The Indian School-Second Shift remains committed to fostering such platforms where young minds can explore and express their creativity.
